A Local's Guide to the Fourth of July in Malibu: Parade, Beaches & Coastal Celebrations

A Local's Guide to the Fourth of July in Malibu: Parade, Beaches & Coastal Celebrations

Whether you're a longtime local or spending your first Independence Day on the coast, there are several beloved traditions that make the holiday in Malibu truly unforgettable.

Point Dume's 27th Annual 4th of July Parade & Community Picnic

Arguably Malibu's most cherished Independence Day tradition, the Point Dume Parade is exactly what makes this community so special. Think decorated golf carts, classic cars, bicycles draped in red, white and blue, local organizations, live music, and neighbors gathering together to celebrate.

Saturday, July 4

9:00 AM – Parade participant check-in and lineup begins

9:30 AM – Parade departs from the corner of Bluewater Road and Birdview Avenue

Following the Parade – Community Picnic at Malibu Elementary School featuring food, family activities, games, and local vendors.

It's one of those events that reminds you why so many families choose to call Malibu home.

Spend the Afternoon at Zuma or Point Dume

After the parade, the beaches become the heart of the holiday.

Bring a beach chair, paddleboard, picnic, or simply enjoy an afternoon soaking in the California sunshine. You'll find volleyball games, surfers catching summer waves, families building sandcastles, and friends gathering together along the coastline.

Some of our favorite places include:

  • Point Dume State Beach

  • Zuma Beach

  • El Matador State Beach

  • Trancas Beach

There really isn't a wrong choice.

Sunset is Malibu's Fireworks

Unlike many coastal cities, Malibu does not host a public fireworks display due to wildfire safety and the city's commitment to protecting its beautiful natural environment.

Instead, locals have their own tradition.

As the sun begins to set, families gather along the beaches, on oceanfront decks, and from blufftop homes to watch one of the most spectacular sunsets of the year. On a clear evening, you can often spot fireworks lighting up the horizon from neighboring communities while enjoying Malibu's peaceful coastline.

Sometimes, Mother Nature puts on the best show of all.

Looking for Fireworks Nearby?

If you're hoping to end your evening with a fireworks display, several nearby communities host professional celebrations, including:

  • Woodland Hills – Warner Park Fourth of July Extravaganza

  • Thousand Oaks – Fireworks Hill Celebration

  • Marina del Rey – Burton Chace Park Fireworks

  • Pacific Palisades – Parade, community celebration, and evening drone show (2026)

After the festivities, it's just a scenic drive back along Pacific Coast Highway to the tranquility of Malibu.

Life at Trancas Malibu

This is where I'd tie everything back to the lifestyle:

Imagine beginning your morning with coffee overlooking the Pacific, walking with neighbors to the Point Dume Parade, spending the afternoon relaxing by your private pool or enjoying Trancas Beach, and ending the evening watching the sun melt into the ocean as distant fireworks sparkle along the Southern California coastline.

At Trancas Malibu, holidays aren't about rushing from one event to the next.

They're about slowing down, gathering with the people you love, and appreciating the lifestyle that makes this stretch of Malibu unlike anywhere else in the world.

This isn't simply where you spend the Fourth of July.

It's where summer becomes a way of life.
